2011-2010 Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra New Year’s Concert. The largest
classical musical event in the world comes live in Vienna, the capital of
Austria, it has long been a Philharmonic tradition at the New Year to present a
program consisting of the lively and at the same time nostalgic music from the
vast repertoire of the Johann Strauss family and its contemporaries. Conducted for
the second time by the French Conductor George Pretre, Vienna’s

It is the desire of the Philharmonic not only to provide
musically definitive interpretations of the masterworks of this genre, but at
the same time, as musical ambassadors of the Austria, to send people all over
the world a New Year’s greeting in the spirit of hope, friendship and peace.

Juile Andrews as host of the festive annual New Year’s celebration with the
Vienna Philharmonic, under the direction of Franz Welser Most from Vienna’s
Musikverein.

A record number of Viennese and guests from abroad spend New
Year’s Eve in Vienna’s city centre
each year. 700,000 guests welcomed the New Year in the city centre of Vienna
last year despite the low temperatures. The New Year’s Trail takes place for
the 21st time this year’s and features fantastic new attractions
